"It is sick," said Brianna, "but that's not something I can do anything about, Charlie." She grabbed her things. "Not now, not for a long time. But I promise you that someday we will be able to do something about it, the both of us....even a couple of other people."

"Yeah, in the future, I plan to change this. Trust me. I may only be fourteen at the moment, but when I'm older, I'll change this whole place," Charlie said, grabbing his own things.

Brianna smiled at the younger boy. "I'll be waiting for that, Charlie," she said. She was hopeful that there would be people like Charlie around, who had more courage to fight injustice like he did. But for now, Brianna had to protect things that she loved first, before protecting the rest of those who needed it.

"You will see. I'll be the leader of this town, and I'll change it so we can be friends. I hope to see you, standing by my side and agreeing with me. Maybe then we won't be sat on different benches," Charlie said, believeing every word. He wanted to change the future.

Brianna smiled. Children. They had so much hope in them, not seeing the real world as much as when they grow up. Sometimes Brianna wished he could go back a year ago, when everything wasn't as complicated as it became lately.
"I will be Charlie," said Brianna, believing all her heart that something would change if there was only someone willing to stand by his or her own principles in life.

"Then I'll see you in the future, Brianna. Because I doubt we'll speak to each other again," Charlie said, offering his hand to her. "Shake on it? Please? I won't bite."

Brianna smiled and held out her hand. "To the future, Bud," she said rather confidently.

"To the future," Charlie said, shaking her hand. "To the future. May it be a good one."

Brianna slowly let go of Charlie's firm grip and nodded. "See you ten years from now, Charlie," she said with a smile. Finally, she met someone with a dream, someone who doesn't conform to what the world thinks...someone who's willing to take the risk of not taking sides even though he isn't from those of the elites. And plenty years from now, Brianna could only hope that the boy could stay the same as he is now.

"See you in ten years," Charlie agreed, nodding. He picked up his stuff and walked out of the pool, not glancing back once. His plan was to become the leader of Bradewell, and he was going to do it. He wanted this place to change.
