"It's not because they don't like Randy," explained Brianna, knowing that this was the full truth. "It's because most of the people wouldn't risk losing their jobs over someone's rivalries. The Glares, they control everything that happens around this city and you and I both know that well enough to know the reality here. It's not like we;re oblivious to the fact anymore," she pointed out, which was true.
The story about the Glares and the Kings had been going on for ages. It doesn't seem to end in whatever generation. As long as there is still a Glare boy and a King boy standing, it's never going to end at all, or so the whole city thinks.

Charlie sighed and nodded in agreement. Everyone knew the story. Not one person didn't know the story. It was a well known tale, but Charlie felt that was incrediably stupid.
"I know, Brianna. I know the story, I know people won't associate with him. I know. I just...I hate it. I wish I could just, do something to stop this," Charlie said, sighing.

Brianna smiled weakly. "Me too," she admitted. "It just feels so stupid. But even the boys...Harvey and Randy. You see them. You see them bite each other's heads off everyday. If the family in itself is never going to stop, there's nothing we can do about it."
Which was true. It had to start with the Kings and the Glares and the way they raise their kids.

"I try to tell him it's wrong, but, he doesn't listen. I'm sure if I keep trying, Randy might stop. But I don't know which of them starts it," Charlie said, sighing and sitting on the bench.
Charlie had tried to convince Randy plenty of times to stop fighting, but he didn't seem to listen.

"I doubt that they will," said Brianna thoughtfully, wiping her damp hair. "The way they were taught, the way they were raised. They were born to hate each other, Charlie. Your word nor mine can't stop that. It's as if the world counts on them to be rivals."
It seemed to be the absolute truth, that Glares and Kings were never meant to be friends. Bradewall City wouldn't be Bradewall if they were in the same side...or that is much ti Brianna's opinion.

"Yeah, I know. You're right. I just wish it wasn't like this," Charlie said, sighing. "Bradewall would never be the same without the rivalry, though. It's what keeps us going, I think. Keeps us fighting."
Charlie ran the towel through his hair, drying it off a bit.

Brianna nodded in agreement. "I just wish there wasn't some kind of line," she said, still keeping her distance away from Charlie. Someone could be watching them and she was afraid to go home and get caught talking to someone who's rather close with the King boy. "It keeps people from being friends..."

"A great big divide down the whole town, and no one can cross the line, in case somebody's father finds out. Like the line down this bench," Charlie said, looking at her. "I see you keeping your distance."

Brianna looked sad, sadder than she was a while ago. She didn't want to treat Charlie this way, not when their friendship seemed to have started off pretty well. But like Charlie said, older sisters have a responsibility, and they have to think about their younger sibling first before they think of themselves. Brianna could only hope that Charlie could understand that first and foremost.
"You know I can't," said Brianna as she looked at Charlie hopefully. "You know it isn't supposed to be."

"Yeah, I know. Doesn't mean I have to stick by it," Charlie said, rolling his eyes at her. "It's sick, what they do to kids, just because the adults can't get along. It's sick. And you know as well as I do that it's sick."
