"Ok, I trust you," Jessica said quietly, looking at him with complete trust. She was going to give her complete trust, and if he broke that, then she would never forgive him. When she gave people her trust, they stayed by her. She gave it to Charlie, to Terrence and to Randy. She didn't give it lightly.
"Ok, I'll teach you," Jessica said, standing up and taking the wrench out of his hand. She held the wrench up. "This is an open-ended wrench. You use this to tighten bolts on the wheels. The other type is a box-end wrench, which you use on the bolts inside the engine of inside the body of the car itself."

"Awesome," said Cole, quite in amazement for he new abosuletely nothing about engines...even though he was a guy and 16 at that. If only his father had taught him a thing or two about it. Well, Jessica was here now anyway. "So that thingy goes with the engine to tighten them?" he asked, although he knew he sounded stupid.
Well, Cole didn't care. He couldn't care, not as long as he was with Jessica. Everything was going all right again, just as he had hoped before he dropped by the garage.

"This wrench goes with the wheels. Look," Jessica said, kneeling down by the wheels and pulling him down beside her. "Look, you see these bolts? If you use the wrench." Jessica placed the wrench by the bolt and untightened it, letting it drop to the floor. She picked it up and handed it to Cole and with the wrench. "You can put it back in."
Jessica felt a lot better now. She trusted him and knew he wasn't going to lie to her or ruin this. She had the friendship back and even more now.

Cole watched as Jessica worked. He wondered if it was okay with her that he would somehow make one of the world's dumbest boyfriend...of ever she becomes his girlfriend...standing next to her. But oh well, Cole was willing to take that chance. What would people say if they saw them in school together? That was another thing that Cole wondered about as well.
"That's so awesome you know all that things," said Cole as he listened carefully to every word Jessica said.

"I have to know this stuff if I want to fix the cars. If I don't know, I have no hope of fixing them. It's easy once you get the hang of it," Jessica said, taking the bolt out of his hand and putting it back in the hole in the wheel.
"Ok, hold the wrench like this," Jessica said, adjusting the wrench in his hand. She moved his hand with hers so it was in the right postion to tighten the bolt. "Now you just tighten the bolt."

Cole did as he was told. It seemed all new to him, everything that Jessica was saying. But this was fun. He began to wonder why the real reason his dad never lets him touch this things. Was it to keep him away from cars...or something else he had in mind?
But Cole didn't care much of it right now. He just smiled at Jessica and said, "Like this?"

"See, you've got the hang of it now," Jessica said, watching him fix the bolt back into the hole. He seemed like a quick learner, which always helped when learning new things. Jessica was a very quick learner too, which helped her in all her classes.
"You're a natural. You could fix this whole car by yourself soon enough," Jessica said, smiling reassuringly at him.

Cole wiped the sweat off of his foreehead. He wasn't used to this kind of work. He looked at Jessica and smiled. If only his parents could see him now, greased up and fixing a car. Would they be fuming mad they would, but Cole knew they'd be proud too. He knew his parents that much having watched them too closely before.
Cole smiled at Jessica. "Thanks," he said. "I can't believe you and Charlie do this stuff everyday. Seems awesome."

Jessica smiled back at him, watching him hanging on to her every word. He wanted to learn all this stuff, stuff she had known since she had come to this place. Since Terrence had taught her, which she had insisted he do so she could help. She wanted to help that day and hadn't stopped helping since.
"It's cool to do, fixing cars. Charlie, he doesn't spend as much time doing this as me, but he still likes it," Jessica said, smiling at him.

Cole looked at his watch. "Hey, I have to go soon," he said, though he didn't want the day to end too abrupt. He hadn't had this much fun with a girl in a long time...even if she didn't have to wear bikini swimsuits like the rest of the girls he went along with. Surely Jessica was something special just by a glance at her. "But I'm coming by after dinner if that's all right with you," he added hopefully.
