Cole turned to have a glance at Charlie before going on to sit onto one of the machines. "He'll be all right," he said as he settled himself comfortably and set the chair onto the right length so that his legs could be stretched. "He's a big boy, Jessica. He can take care of himself for a couple of minutes."
He knew what it felt like to have someone keeping an eagle's eye on him because of what his mother did throughout the years. It wasn't a very pleasant feeling too...which he didn't really want Charlie to experience with Jessica since he could see how much Jessica cared for Charlie.
"Now come on and let's have a game," Cole said.

"I know he'll be ok, but, I just worry, that's all. I don't want to lose him," Jessica murmured, sitting in the car beside him and sorting herself into a comfortable position.
"I will warn you, you are going to beat me really badly," Jessica said, putting her hand on the steering wheel. "By miles, I expect."

Cole eased his head on the headrest behind him. "Oh, it's not so easy to lose a teenage boy..." said Cole, thinking if Charlie was anything like himself, that boy would know that no matter where he walked off to, Jessica would be watching. There was no way of making a run for it, even in a huge crowd.
Cole laughed. "I'll go easy on you, I promise," he said as he watched the start of the game commence. "Still...be ready to bite the dust," he said as the green light flashed on and Cole stepped on the gas pedal...hard.
He was back with the game he had been waiting for all year long.

"I know, I know. I'm being paranoid. I can't help it. I'm over-protective to him. I just want to keep him safe," Jessica muttered, tightening and loosening her grip on the steering wheel.
"I don't plan to bite any dust, actually," Jessica replied, flooring the accelerator as the green light flashed. "I plan to win, this time. Just to show you."

Of all the things that would happen out of boredom, this is what Cole least expected...to meet a friend, well, meet a friend that he should have known for a long time if he wasn't being so indifferent in the past...and also be beaten by her in the favorite game that they were playing.
Cole's mouth hung open as he stared at the screen. "You actually beat me," he said, but there was a smile on his face as he said it. He looked at Jessica. "You're good," he commented.

Jessica squealed wit delight as she realised she had actually beat him. She smiled brightly at him, a proper smile that she hadn't used ever before. Only with her brother.
"I beat you! Oh, that is so cool!" Jessica said excitedly, still smiling at him. "I can't believe I beat you! So much for biting your dust!"

"Apparently you should have been the one saying that to me," said Cole, laughing along with her joy. It was great to see her smile. He hadn't seen it before, not even when their batch was winning...or when she was with her friends. It was good to see her smile like that...a true genuine smile that he had been waiting to see.
Cole patted his pants. "I'm out of quarters," he said. He really didn't expect to be playing against someone so he didn't bring too much...just for a game or two, but being with someone was pretty fun, especially when you met someone new.

"Oh, I am so sorry! I used all your money up!" Jessica said, blushing. She hadn't meant to use his money, especially not all of it. She put her hand in her pocket and put some money in his hand.
"There you go. The money I used of yours. I'm very sorry for using all your money," Jessica said, fiddling with her hair again. She really needed to get rid of that habit.

"Hey, it's not about the money, Jessica," said Cole, giving her back the quarters she gave him. "I enjoyed every single minute and heck, each is worth more than a quarter, trust me!" He gave her an assuring smile to let her know that he wasn't lying about it.
Cole looked around. "I do hope you had a great time around here even if you don't really like the noise," he said. "I see you sometimes in school. I notice you like the quiet places."
If there was something noticeable about Jessica, it was that she stood out from most of the people. He wasn't like the others who were always into the trends. Jessica was different, which was a surprise to Cole that he hadn't noticed that until now.

Jessica smiled at him, putting the money back in her pocket. "I had a great time, Cole. Expecially since I got to spend time with you. I don't really like the noisy places, no. I like to think, and you can't think if you are surrounded by noise."
Cole was special. Much different for the other boys. The other boys didn't notice her. She was quiet, away from the crowds. Sure, Cole didn't really notice her until today, but the fact that he did made a difference.
